Derek Bruce Hough is an American professional actor, choreographer, songwriter and singer, and ballroom dancer. He is famous for his works in several super hit movies and TV shows like Make Your Move 3D, Pock of Ages, Nashville, Lip Sync Battle, Jane the Virgin, Hairspray, etc.

Derek Hough’s Family…

Derek was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States in May 1985. He was raised in a religious family that followed the Latter-day Saints. Hough’s parents were very well off and educated as his father Bruce Hough was the two times chairman of the Utah Republican Party. He has four sisters.

Dance Is A Family Thing!

Interestingly all of Derek’s grandparents were dancers and performed the ballroom dance and his parents also met one another when they were on a dancing team in college in Idaho. Derek is the second cousin of the famous musicians Riker, Rydel, Rocky, and Ross Lynch.

10 Years In London

When he was 12 years old his parents sent him to London as they were getting divorced, and when in London his sister joined him. Derek stayed in London for ten long years and learned ballroom dance there. He went to the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts where he was trained in song, theater, gymnastics, etc.

TV Shows And Series

He made cameo appearances in 2001 in the famous movie series Harry Potter and the Sorcerer Stone and in Rock of Ages in 2012. Derek has appeared on several TV shows as a guest as well as a host, for instance, he made a guest appearance on the ABC show Better with You, and on the CW series Jane the Virgin.

Awards And Accolades…

Derek has received many awards including the two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding choreography in the dance competition TV series ‘Dancing with the Stars. Derek has also served as a judge on the NBC dance competition.
